I’ve helped legal professionals at all stages transform their careers and find fulfilling paths
forward. Here’s what some of them have to say.

Rachel has coached hundreds of lawyers of all seniority levels, from junior associates to partners and general counsel. She has helped lawyers do the “impossible:” go directly from associate to general counsel, change practice areas as a mid-level associate, and go in-house without taking a pay cut, to name a few.

Rachel graduated from Harvard Law School and practiced at Davis Polk in New York. She then served as Law Editor of Vault.com, where she oversaw Vault’s Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms and read 17,000+ associate survey responses about all facets of law firm life. Rachel went on to run the career coaching and job placement program at Sullivan & Cromwell before founding Your Next Law Job.

Q: What experience/qualifications are required to apply?

A: The Accelerator is open to law firm associates, special counsel, and non-equity partners 1-10 years out of law school. The content and strategies in the Accelerator are specifically tailored to this demographic.

A:The Accelerator is designed specifically for law firm associates, with personalized, high-touch coaching from Rachel Boufford, a former head of career coaching at a top law firm. We work together to create a tailored, results-driven strategy for your next career move, with real-time feedback and support every step of the way.
A: I personally guarantee that all information you provide me via 1:1 contact (live and asynchronous), including your application, will be held in the strictest confidence. I have coached hundreds of lawyers and have never once had a breach of confidence. To ensure confidentiality in the group setting, I have the following protocols in place:
  • I will only accept one lawyer from a given law firm per cohort
  • The live modules will be presented in a Zoom webinar format, so participants can only see the host and not each other
  • During the live coaching sessions, you are welcome to turn off your camera and/or change your Zoom account name to just your first name or an alias
A: The six modules and group coaching sessions are delivered over the course of 12 weeks. However, job searches vary in length and can be shorter or longer than 12 weeks, whether by design or circumstance. That’s why you will have access to the recorded video modules, live coaching sessions, and 1:1 coaching for a full year.
A: If you are at your second firm and want to move in-house or lateral again, you are welcome to apply as long as you graduated from law school within the last 10 years. This program is not meant for lawyers who are already in-house (though I plan to launch one for you in the future!)
A: During the application process, you will be asked which days and times you can commit to attending regularly. The six live modules will be recorded so that attendees can review them again as needed, and so that participants who need to miss a session can view them.
A: During the application process, you will be asked which days and times you can commit to attending regularly. The group coaching sessions will not be recorded to protect participants’ confidentiality. However, if you have to miss a group coaching session, you may submit a question in advance and I will record my answer to that question only. You will derive the most benefit from attending as many group coaching sessions as possible, as many of the participants will have similar challenges and valuable insights. Attendance at the group coaching sessions is highly recommended, but not required.
A: As long as you want to go in-house or lateral (it’s okay if you’re not sure which and want to explore both), you are in the right place! Both the kick-off call and group coaching sessions will cover how to conduct informational interviews to discover what you want to do, set short- and long-term career goals, and confirm your ideal timeline.
A: During our kickoff call, we’ll review exactly what you’ve done so far so that we can tailor your experience to address all gaps in your strategy so that you can make your job search a success.

Rachel’s magic skill is in interpreting how to interact with the human side of this, how to go about these sometimes difficult and awkward conversations and how to navigate that. That’s information that you can’t get by reading about it – the human challenge and interaction. She really has a pulse on that and cares about it and that allowed me to navigate conversations much more smoothly than I ever could have alone.

Module 6

Many brilliant lawyers with fantastic experience struggle during the job search process.

You have worked so hard for your career, and you deserve a role that’s interesting, engaging, and fulfilling.

But despite all your qualifications and experience, you’re not seeing the results you want from your job search.

That’s because unless you know the right steps, strategies, scripts, and techniques for success with an in-house or lateral search, you risk winding up confused, frustrated, or worst of all–stuck in the wrong job.

This is why I created the In-House and Lateral Accelerator. It contains the roadmap and strategies I wish I had years ago when I was starting out. And they’re the same roadmap and strategies I’ve shared with hundreds of lawyers who have gone on to land and thrive in their dream jobs.

Whether you’re just starting to explore new opportunities or you’ve been applying without success, this program is designed to help you move forward with clarity, strategy, and momentum, so you can land a role that’s aligned with what you truly want.

Introducing…

The 90-Day In-House and Lateral Accelerator is built exclusively for law firm associates who want to land their dream jobs, without wasting time sending out countless unanswered online applications, talking to recruiters who don’t “get it,” or attending pointless networking events.

  • A proven, step-by-step process for landing the best role for your short- and long-term career goals
  • Mentorship, direct feedback, and coaching from Rachel Boufford, founder of Your Next Law Job (and former head of career coaching and job placement at a top law firm)
  • Clarity and confidence that you’re making the right move
  • Strict confidentiality protocols, so you can fully engage in the program while ensuring your privacy is protected

I started out as an associate at a large law firm in New York. When I was ready to move on to my next role, I had no idea where to start.

I was one of those people who went to law school because I was told I could “do anything” with a JD… but no one ever taught me how to actually figure out my next step.

I knew it was possible to move into a different kind of role because I saw other people who had similar backgrounds to mine and had really cool jobs. But I kept waiting for someone to show me the way forward—and no roadmap ever came.

Over the next few years, I made some big pivots. And I ended up at another top law firm, where I built and led the in-house career coaching and job placement program.

In that role and through my private coaching practice, I’ve had the chance to help hundreds of lawyers of all seniority levels land roles that align with their skills and goals.

And what I have seen over and over again is this:

Land your next role with clarity, confidence, and a strategic plan for success
